What is a Sensory Garden ?

A sensory garden stimulates most of the senses in our bodies. This helps those who have lost some of their senses
Telford Sensory Gardens has a lot of interesting things for blind people.braille maps, rails for support, and benches to relax. The garden is designed in a Japanese style and spaces are left next to benches for wheelchairs. The floor texture changes around the garden

Sensory Garden

The Senses
Sight Sight

The layout needs to have a pleasing effect on the eyes. There needs to be a mixture of colours all year round. They could look at plants and the colours of the flowers They could also look at the fountains.

Touch Touch

Flowers need to have a variety of textures. They also need a varierty of smell Prickly plants are at the back to avoid accidents. Fences are smooth. ponds and waterfalls are shallow.

Smell Smelling

In the garden you can smell and touch the flowers and plants. There were many pleasant and unplesant smells and hundreds of flowers and plants for people to smell.

Hearing Hearing

A person could enjoy the garden without the sense of hearing by:

  • Looking
  • Smelling
  • Touching
People who are not able to hear other people talking can read labels of the names of plants and flowers.

The Building Site

The site for the residents is in Old Hill. On the site there are two bungalows for residents who have special needs. The Site Manager told us how the building progressed. The Architect told us why he designed it the way it is.
