Black Outs

What life was like, living in darkness.

The term "BLACK OUT" ment people living without any light at night, this was done so the German planes could not see them from the sky.

The picture above is of a small torch, the light you can imagine given of by the torch is the amount of light you were allowed to have on the head lights of a car.
The houses had to have black sheets covering the windows, to make sure that there was no light to be seen. The sreet corners, curbs of pavements, lamp posts were painted white.
This was done so that the people walking in the sreet at night could see a reflection of white coming from what ever was painted, this proved to be very useful.

The whole black out idea was not realy necessary in the West Midlands, because the German planes did'nt usually bomb insignificant towns and area.
