Nara

Nara was the first permanent capital of Japan. Before Nara the capital was
always where the palace of the emperor was located. Nara has many temples
and shrines of which the most famous are Todaiji Temple, Kofukuji Temple
and the Kasuga Taisha Shrine. Many of the historical sights are around the
area of Nara Park. Nara has a population of 349,000



Todaiji Temple The Todaiji Temple is one of the most important temples in Japan. It contains the largest bronze statue
of Buddha in the World. The temple
was founded in the 8th century. The building is the largest wooden one in the world.
Home The modern home shown is
typical of a large detached house in Japan. It has all the modern luxuries but the gardens at both the front and rear are very small. Typical of Japan's lack of space. One highlight of such homes is the Japanese bath. This house is on the outskirts of Nara.
