Instructions: Children will need to be familiar with digit cards. Look at ways to make a sum using just 2 numbers. How do we record this? It may be a good idea to do the first example together to ensure understanding of the activity.

Plenary: Children could share their examples on the board. Has anyone been able to use a different number operation? Could we think of a take away sum to make one of the totals?

Extension: Use larger numbers and set totals above 20. Allow the children to use both +/- to solve problems. Introduce 5 numbers- what is the highest/lowest total you can make?
