Instructions:

Dominoes are a good practical way
to show each paving stone.
Using either a template or dominoes
can someone show a path 6 units long?
Children can do this sheet individually
or in pairs.
Encourage the children to plan the task first,
who will record each path design?
Plenary:

Share results. Does everyone
agree on the number of possibilities?
Is there a common pattern?
Can this be used to predict an
arrangement for 20 stones?

Extension:

Change the path size, use a path with a width of 4 units.
Give the children a set area that needs to be covered.
What combinations can the children come up with?
