The Maths trail has many values, the most important being that:
- It provides a topic that generates appropriate work for different learning styles and levels of ability. It presents activity which enables environmental problem solving through ICT.
- It provides differentiated activities, shared experience in doing mathematics, where pupils can work together discussing, exploring and recording mathematics at their own pace.
- It provides a means of pupil assessment through teachers' observations. From this assessment teachers can provide reinforcement and extension work.
For Pupils
It provides opportunities:
- To observe and appreciate the mathematics contained in the local environment.
- To apply mathematical skills to practical situations.
- To use language in discussing tasks.
- To work together on a common task.
- To encourage and create a positive attitude
- To develop mathematical and ICT skills.
For Teachers
It provides opportunities:
- To observe and assess individual strengths and weaknesses in mathematics.
- To deliver maths activities in terms appropriate to the NNS.
- To access teaching materials via the Internet.
