Role Play is when people pretend to be someone else and express their point of view. The first thing we did was read a newspaper article. It was about different people's opinions. Local residents might be outraged at the idea of an outdoor youth facility in the middle of a very quiet estate. On the other hand people might think that this area needs a place for children to meet and play with their friends.

Pupils looked at different people's point of view and had the opportunity to argue their case for or againist a new development at Marl Hole Park. Pupils represented one of the following groups:-

  • The council
  • Local residents
  • Local youth club workers
  • Local shopkeeper
  • Local children

Each group had to think about the effects that a new development at Marl Hole would have. They prepared a case for or against the development.

All groups were allowed to have their say at a pretend local meeting.

Based on the cases presented the class and the teacher decided whether or not the development should go ahead.
