When
we had done a lot of work about fossil fuels, we could understand that
making electricity using fossil fuels can cause a lot of problems. We
also understood that if we try to save energy we will help our world because
we will not be using so much electricity and there will not be so much
pollution.
We wanted to find
out how good the school was at being energy efficient, so we did an "Energy
Audit".

We found out that
we save electricity in school because all of our lights are controlled
by sensors. This means that if there is no movement in a room, the lights
automatically turn off.

We also found that
our school is good at not using water that we do not need. We know that
sometimes people forget to turn off taps, but in our school the taps turn
off automatically. The caretaker is pleased about this as well because
he does not have to clean up floods very often!

All of our radiators
have knobs on them that let us turn the heat up and down. This means that
we do not use heat when we do not need it.

BUT
one thing that we are not very good at is keeping the heat in. When we
checked the windows we found that there were a lot of draughts and leaks.
Our School Council Representative is going to bring this problem up at
the next meeting.
