These two photographs show damage
which resulted from the Kobe
earthquake. This damage was in a rural
area of Awaji Island. Most of the text
book photographs are taken in urban
areas where of course death and injury
numbers were much higher.
Notice: The height and line of the
conifer trees on the first picture. They
have been moved in two directions.
On the second picture you can see a
step in the ground where vertical
movement occurred. The greenhouse is
to protect the fault from erosion.
